Though he mostly lived in Florida, Davy never lost his sarcastic British humour.

    1. Did you know that, before people discovered Davy could sing, his first love was always horses? He was from Manchester (I'm pretty sure - not double-checking this) and, because of his diminutive size, would probably have become a jockey. His music career allowed him the cash to buy his own horses. I saw a 20/20 (or the like) TV program which interviewed him and showed him carrying a huge bale of hay to feed his horses. He died in his stable with his horses in Florida of a heart attack. Probably dying near his beloved horses was what he would have preferred anyway.

    2. Of course I know he loved horses! Don't you know he was my first love?
I read all the 16 mags my mother would let me buy (Tiger Beat, too).May he rest in peace.

    1. Sarcastic and damn proud of it, from what I've been able to determine.

  3. Sarcasm should be cutting. I don't think that was cutting, do you?. I think it's irony. Mind you people who are thin skinned or have a reduced sense of humour may not see it the same way.

    1. I think it may have been you who taught me that sarcasm is a form of irony. Or perhaps it was my AmLit teacher. But no, the above wasn't cutting enough to qualify for actual sarcasm. Certainly not cutting enough or debasing enough to qualify for BRITISH sarcasm. :)

Try not to be thin-skinned. Be tough like me'n Adullamite. (Of course, with the life Adullamite leads, he pretty much HAS to be thick-skinned.)

    1. Thank you for the correction, Adullamite. I'm guessing you also own one of those special autographed Davy books? I wonder what YOUR copy says? And how long you stood in line to get Davy to sign it. Does your autograph also contain the word "Sucker!" in it? :) I'm guessing the main reason you stood in line was to be surrounded by jumping and screaming ex 12-year-old girls, eh?

I am going to bookmark this post so I can refer to his precise address in the future.

You know, I used to think Davy was Scots. Hip little singers often talk like Scots you know, at least to an American ear. But then I realized he was good looking and could sing, so not Scots. Then, I naturally thought Welsh. It was considerably later that I realized he was really a Mancunian candidate.

If only I had stored that learning in my mind in a more organized manner so, decades later, I wouldn't have made a blog comment that simple blurted out the embarrassingly general "MANCHESTER!"

Am I catching on to this British sarcasm at all yet?

  5. Neither sarcasm nor irony, I'd say, just plain rude. Looks like he'd signed one too many autographs.

He was an apprentice jockey in Newmarket, England, which is considered to be the hub of britain's horse-racing industry. It was his boss there, Basil Foster, who encouraged him to pursue his dreams of showbiz stardom, they remained friends long after he became famous, and i seem to remember that when the bbc were talking of him after his death, it was said he'd paid Basil's fees at a care-home for the elderly in Florida.

    1. Does not surprise me, I'm telling you he was a truly nice guy and I will always remember him with fondness.

    2. I don't doubt he was a nice guy. I just think even nice guys get tired of signing autographs.... I know I do.

    3. Does RDG get tired of asking for your autograph....?

  6. Hey!
I would hate to sign autographs too. I would be like Russell Crowe, throwing things at people!
Most Brits have a dry sense of humor and Davy Jones shows this above!
