Happy Women's Day South Africa

August 9, 1956: Apartheid is challenged.

I started this blog gathering wondrous special words from all over the former British Empire. It was fun. I don't blog about those countries much anymore, and the followers from those countries, even Canada, have fallen away. But today is special in South Africa.

I want to say Happy Women's Day. Seek out a special woman in your life and do something special for her, in honor of the 20,000 women who marched on Pretoria on this day and stood like rocks against apartheid.

wathint’ abafazi, wathint’ imbokodo

"You strike a woman, you strike a rock, You have loosed a boulder. You will be crushed by it."

  1. Now the black man rules his own country in the UK the white liberals who camped outside the embassy for years no longer care about the poverty of the people. It's only white men who are bad after all.

    1. I knew you couldn't bring yourself to say anything good about women, even courageous and heroic women.

    2. You don't know how much it pains me to say this, but your comment was thought-provoking.

    3. The women were brave, some even avoided being shot! But there are those who criticise white power but never mention the black abuse. One sided in their views (Israel & Palestine are today's easy choice) they do not 'love their neighbour' they just follow a political agenda, usually middle class liberal, but not always. They care nothing for such women, although they would offer them feminist books.

    4. I don't know about Palestine. I know that today is a national holiday in South Africa, stemming from an event on this day in 1956, but now intended to honor ALL women of all colors and beliefs in the country. Take one to lunch. :)

As for blacks botching it up when they took over in South Africa, it is true they seem to vote skin color rather than competence. Much like in America today.

    1. Everyone seeks you out. We all know you are a very brave and compassionate woman. Unfortunately, most of us are too far away to do anything special for you today. The best I can do to honor you is to give you the advice, as a woman, never visit the blog of Adullamite.
